Horde at Home is a 2.5D illustrated zombie defense survival game where you manage a family holed up in an isolated farmhouse, fortifying windows by day and fending off nocturnal zombie hordes by night. Set on a quiet rural homestead along Deer Run Lane, it blends cinematic realism with deep resource management, steep difficulty scaling, and a unified points economy that ties every upgrade — from weapon crafting to cosmetic character gear — to a single progression currency.
Daytime Survival and Farm Management
By daylight, you explore the front yard, backyard, and both floors of the farmhouse in third person, moving your active family member with an on-screen joystick. You tend a backyard farm of chickens, pigs, a dairy cow, and raised crops; draw fresh water from the well; repair and reinforce the perimeter fence; and visit the shed where Grandpa forges weapons and ammunition. Tending the farm, upgrading crops, and buying livestock all feed back into the points economy, rewarding consistent daily upkeep before the sun goes down and the horde returns.
A Family With Distinct Abilities
Each family member brings a unique role. The Father deals increased firearm damage, the Mother reinforces barricades against breaches, the Son lands critical one-shot kills, the Daughter scavenges extra scrap from every zombie, and Grandpa — a veteran survivor — bolsters maximum house health, doubles rest recovery, and dispenses hard-won survival advice. Rex, the family's German Shepherd, patrols the yard and slows approaching zombies so the family has more time to line up shots.
Nocturnal Horde Defense
When night falls, the view shifts to a first-person window-aim perspective with your weapon visible at the bottom of the screen. Zombies advance through the yard in escalating waves, visibly climbing fences and pushing past wrecked cars as they close on the house. You and your AI-controlled family man four windows, slide shutters to take cover, deploy auto-turrets and land mines, and send Rex to hold a lane. Difficulty scales steeply across fifty nights, introducing faster joggers, armored brutes, and towering mutants that demand smarter fortification and sharper aim.
Built Mobile-First With a Unified Economy
Horde at Home is built mobile-first for iOS and Android from a single shared codebase, with an integrated subscription and points-pack economy designed for long-term engagement. A ten-tier weapon crafting ladder, an upgradeable shed, fortifiable windows, and a living backyard farm give every play session a clear sense of forward progress against an ever-growing threat — so each dawn you survive feels earned, and each night you prepare for feels personal.
Who Horde at Home Is For
Horde at Home is built for players who love zombie defense, survival, and resource-management games — the kind of person who enjoyed fortifying a base in Plants vs. Zombies or rationing supplies in This War of Mine. It is designed mobile-first for quick, tense sessions on iOS and Android, so it suits commuters and casual players as much as dedicated survival fans. Whether you want a cinematic five-minute night-defense run or a long campaign across fifty steeply-scaling nights, the difficulty curve adapts to how deeply you engage with the farm, the shed, and the family's loadout.
Who Builds Horde at Home
Horde at Home is independently designed and built by Rick Naltner on the Base44 platform — a web-based app builder that handles the backend, database, and mobile publishing from a single React codebase. The game's cinematic 2.5D art is generated and curated to keep the house, yard, and horde visually consistent across every scene, and the survival, farming, and economy systems are tuned by hand to reward daily preparation and sharp night-time decision-making. Feedback, bug reports, and survival stories are always welcome through the Contact page.
